8.2 Substitution

--the two values must be equal!

Substitute means:
1. to put (something in place of another)
2. to take the place of; replace
3. to replace (one or more elements) with other elements

STEPS TO SOLVE A SYSTEM OF EQUATIONS BY SUBSTITUTION:

1. Solve ONE equation for ONE of the variables (Solve for x or y)
2. Substitute (replace) value of that variable into the OTHER equation
3. Solve that equation for the remaining variable
4. Find the value of the remaining variable (substitute again using equation from step 1)
