11.1 (cont'd)

Vertex - middle/on A.O.S./highest or lowest part
Axis of Symmetry (A.O.S.) - identical on both sides; vertex
is on it

Quadratic - Variable is squared; y = ax^2 +bx + c

Assignment: p. 615 (#19-24) and #(30-32)

2/17/11

11.1 Graphing Quadratic Functions

I can...
**find the equation of the axis of symmetry and the
coordinates of the vertex
**graph a quadratic function

QUADRATIC FUNCTION - A quadratic function is an equation in
the form of:

y + ax^w + bx + c; where a does not equal 0

To find the axis of symmetry:
~vertex is ALWAYS on it
~parabola is identical on both sides, like a mirror

X = -B/2a

Positive parabola - opens up (like a smiley face)
Negative parabola - opens down (like a frown face)
