9.1 Multiplying Monomials
I can...
*Multiply Monomials
*Simplify expressions involving powers of monomials
Three rules:
Product of Powers
a^m x a^n = a ^m+n
Power of a Power
(a^m)^n = a^m x n
Power of Product
(ab)^m = a^m x b^m
note: exponents begin with ^

November 15th (B) and 16th (A)
8.5 Systems of Inequalities
MUST BE SOLVED BY GRAPHING
Step 1 - Graph Each Inequality
a) Solve for y
b) Graph line
1. b - begin
2. m - move
REMEMBER: greater than and less than is a dotted line AND greater than&equals and less than&equals is a solid line
c) Shade the TRUE side (the answer will be the shaded area that has been shaded TWICE)
Step 2 - Look for the OVERLAP
-That intersection is the solution (as shown by the graph)
Assignment: p. 485 (#19 - 29)

8.4 Elimination with Multiplication
Step #1 - Check to make sure that each equation is in the same form (Ax + By = C- standard form).
(Note: y = mx + b works also, but standard form is preferred.)
Step #2 - Decide which variable you are going to eliminate
Step #3 - Multiply (if necessary) to get x or y terms the same and solve.
Step #4 - Plug the solved value into one of your equations and find the other variable.
Step #5 - Check your solution.

8.3 Solving systems by Elimination
Steps:
1. Put equations into same form: Standard form is highly suggested -> Ax + By = C
Make sure Equation #1 and #2 are in Standard Form.
2. Determine which variable to eliminate.
3. ADD or SUBTRACT
Note: If the two terms you are trying to eliminate have the same sign: SUBTRACT.
If the two terms you are trying to eliminate have different signs: ADD.
4. Solve!
Assignment: p. 473, #15-29 odds - skip #23
